I have played the part of Hype-Man before…and you’re absolutely correct. You get to assail the crowd with in-your-damn-face antics, and it seems completely normal. It was a blast. Oh…and what you said about dropping from the roof? Pride is a bad mutha….it makes people fear being exosed for who they really are. No one wants to expose their flaws and vulnerabilities in fear that those less scrupulous would take advantage of them. In the human experience, it really does take a lot of guts to be who you are, unapologetically, and without concern of judgement. I’d be lying if I said that I haven’t lied to cover some of my frailties. I lie to shield myself from others thinking, “Man…just how fucked up is this guy?”. Learning to grow with enough confidence to not try to cover your flaws with lies is a big growing process in itself. Great post.

There are so many different ways you can give love, I hate that people see not wanting to be a parent as a shortcoming. My sis has no desire for kids, and she’s one of the most loving people I know. And the bio clock thing is real too. I think that people put all these “bucket list” assumptions on us as the over 30 set.
